I did a water change in one of my Cory tanks an hour ago, so of course my Mama Aeneus is doing the sexy dance with her beaus. :hey:

Edit: I got some eggs from this spawn. I just got some critterkeepers. They appear about 2 usg.

I was wondering how the rest of you keep the air stone down? I had trouble with that last time. I would like it to stay on the bottom, but it stays at the top :X

I can't remember; what temp does it need to stay? I guess I need to put a heater in there to keep the temp constant.

Float the plastic critterkeepers in the same tank as parents for keeping them warm just watch out if you have high lighting that you don't cook the eggs/fry. Put a cloths peg on the side of the tank to hold the air pipe in place. Don't over aerate though. When the fry hatch they don't need feeding for 3 days then start them on smalll foods eg microworms. You need to do a daily 50% water change at the same temp. It takes alot of dedication to raise fry but is very rewarding seeing the little cute buggers. Hope all goes well and how about some pics. :D

Thanks, AaCt.

I managed to wedge the air stone under the heater which is set at 75 degrees F. I have them on the kitchen counter right now. :p It will be easier to care for. The parents are in a 40 usg on the bottom half of a double stand--on the floor essentially. My poor old knees would definately retard my housekeeping down there.

I have taken some pics of the eggs. I took shots of the cories frantically dancing around, but I'm not sure any of them got anything. I will post in about 12 hours or 24 if I got any thing to show.

That temperature is probably good. It needs to be about the same as the main tank. For the airstone, I just taped the airline hose to the top of the tank and the air stone didnt move. Just remember, its very important to have good water flow over the eggs so they dont get fungus.

Good Luck B)

The main tank is probably about a few degrees warmer--2 or 3 degrees. I moved the air wand farther away from the eggs, I think I'll move it back under the heater.

I only got one bronze baby last time. I'm in better shape for this this time. Although I never got yeast for the microworms Synirr sent me. They are in a bag back in a corner of the kitchen cabnet--I assume they expired. :/

The last time the babies did really well on Atison's Betta Starter--they seemed to like that better than Tetra Fry. I was never able to get liquid fry. So I am going to go ahead and start with Atison's. I just saved one little clutch but bigger than the last time. There are eggs all over the parents' tank. The baby c. Apples are feeding well.

Hi jollysue :)

What a nice batch of eggs! You will surely get a lot of fry this time.

I keep my C. aeneus fry tanks at around 75-76 degrees F. It's warm enough, but not too warm, since C. aeneus are cooler water corys than some of the others.

I saved the strips of lead from some bunch plants and wrap one or two around the airline, just above the airstone, to sink them. Then, I put a clip-on cloths pin on the top of the tank and drape the airline over the top of it. If you push it down a little, it will stay in place at whatever depth you want to keep it at. :D

I actually have an air wand stone attached to a Whisper 10 air pump. Should I take it off and just use the hose?

hi jollysue
congrats on the eggs :D i used an air wand on mine & i had very little fungus so think its ok to keep the wand on

Wow, thats a lot of eggs! Those cories are huge. Mine are not near that big.

As for the airstone, I had one of those small stones right under the eggs and everyone of them hatched. As long as the eggs are secured to whatever they were layed on, I think they should be fine.

Also, I would recommend getting some more microworms. You will be amazed how fast they grow when you start feeding them microworms. I know I was.

Keep us updated

Is she a round Mama or what? She surely deserves the Mama Cory title.

I think most of that is air bubbles. The eggs are mostly that one clutch in the middle of the leaf. Although I guess it is a good size clutch. When she drops eggs, she really oozes eggs. They are really smeared all over everything.

Hi jollysue :)

I'll bet they give you more eggs soon too. Just keep up feeding them those good blackworms and you will probably see more in a week or two. If you might want to set up a small breeding tank, now's the time to do it. :D

Would cories take care of their own eggs if you left them in there? Or are you just ensuring that you get the best hatch possible?

I believe in a aeneus only breeding tank w/o snails or the Betta. I don't know about aeneus only actually. But I would have to get the c. apples and any other snails and the Betta out. My cockatoo boy who was to get a couple girlfiends this summer died suddenly and mysteriously. I wonder if it might have been the added calcium for the snails?

Actually I have seen several eggs left in the tank appear to come to a mature level, but if they hatched I don't know. No fry showed up to mature. There are a couple of clutches in there now.

I really don't know what I'd do with bunches of new cories. I have concidered turning my new car into an aquarium....
