Sexing Baby Platies

I know you didn't state that. I was refering to Prairie's post above yours.
I only had one male for which I wasn't sure at first whether he was a male or female. He had something like a gravid spot looking dot but not so pronounced I may say. He turned out to be nearly black in body colour so I guess it was just colouring.

Oh, sorry
Well most of mine turned out to be yellow/orange/blue in colour XD

Well generally, the black dot in females will give you 99% accuracy :) in my experience.

It did help sometimes... Except when the males had them too XD I'm not saying all my males had it but some of them did.

It could have been the particular breed/genetics you had because I've kept guppies for years and I can say I almost never put a male into the female tank by accident using my black spot method.

I don't use the black spot method and have never put a male in a female tank XD

How do you sex them then when very young?

I wait for them to develop gonopodiums. Never had a pregnant fry using this method. Until I put her with a male obviously

The gravid spot is not an indication that the guppy is pregnant. All females have small black dots when very young. The shape of the body doesn't indicate if it's a male or female. Actually body shape like they all look like females for quite a long time and some males are quite chunky.
I actually meant (maybe wasn't clear) the shape of the fins, not the body shape. I had a male with the triangular/female looking fins for AGES, months after the others showed their gender before he proved his.

Yeah, I don't think that keeping them together for the first couple of months makes a difference. I had 3 male guppy babies that turned out to be endler/guppy hybrids(mom was bought from a tank that had endler males) and they had gonopodiums at 3 weeks. These were the fastest developing males I've ever had.

I've got an old video of the last batch of guppy that I kept. There are males and females there, but I had already removed most females so the bigger fry in the video are mostly chunky males. But you can see here and there some females with black spots.
The 3 blonde/red ones are the endler/guppy hybrids at 7 weeks on the video. They even got almost of their colour by then as well. The rest grey/darker ones are different batches of guppy fry, 4 weeks the oldest and already same size the endler hybrids but no gonopodiums yet.

Mine tend to start developing at about 3-4 weeks old. Though I had a really confusing male at one point... Took him over 5 months to show that he was male XD

Watching the old videos now makes me want some more guppy fry :) I've kept only one blonde endler/guppy female hybird from the same guppy mom but never got around to breeding her. She's still a virgin and a year and a half old. Wondering if it's worth trying breeding her at that age?

Could be worth it but you probably won't get many off her as although she's older and more mature it would be her first batch :)

As for baby platies, I have a few 2 months old ones and I just went to look...Unless they are all females, none of them has a gonopodium.
