Ok, I know one way, the males fight each other, but I don't want that to happen. I read that males fins grow faster, but, can I have some info on how to sex baby bettas?

With long-finned fish the fins on the males will grow longer, with plakats the females have more rounded anal fins. No matter what the tail type, the males will have larger, more readily apparent gill flaps... then of course there's the ovipositor method :p

Yeah, when you're dealing with babies the best is to see whether the gill flaps protrude beyond the outside of the gill. I've heard only males gill flaps do that :dunno: But theres no harm done if you accidently jar a female.

I notice that the female's are more rounder in the belly from early on. When I feed them they all get nice round bellies but the females don't go down and the males go back to being nice and slim after an hour or so.

So far I've had 100% success in sexing them with this but of course the added longer fins have helped also. Ovipositor is harder to see especially with light bodied fish and I find that males also seem to have one till they are older.

Its not an easy task trying to suss them out
