Ok so my buddy gave me two juvenile severums but isn't sure what kind they are other than they started with a J when he got them? I'm no expert on severums but I thought basically there were only three the green, gold and turquoise, is there another I didn't know about?

Anyway to the main question I have a 55g tank currently with a pair of Kribs, dwarf blue gourami, blue and lavender gourami and a gold gourami. Now right now the two he gave me are maybe at most 2" with the bright black stripes on them (I will try and get a pic) I'm curious as to A are these green severums which I think they are and how can I tell if they are and B how long does it take them to fully mature as I'd like to keep them for a bit and do have places to relocate them (my lfs and a friend who is big into cichlids) so if they will get too big too quickly I can relocate them now?

Thanks ahead of time for any info

In a year they could be 6-8". Post a photo and I'm sure some one can help you id them.

Well confirmed by my one buddy that I was right with them being two green severum juveniles. Now my question is with my current tank and I have another 55g that is ready to have fish put in it now and my current tank with the severums is a 55g.

In with the severums now are :

1 Lavender three spot gourami
1 Blue three spot gourami
1 Gold gourami
1 dwarf gourami
6 Harlquin rasboras
1 pair of Kribs
1 albino bristlenose
1 rubernose pleco
4 pepper corys

Now the severums are only like barely 2 inches atm but I know they can get to 10 so trying to plan the future out when they get bigger. Are any of the gouramis possible tankmates or maybe the 6 rasboras? I'm also open for other suggestions on getting maybe some new cichlids to go in with the severums since I have another tank i can start transferring fish to.

Thanks again for the help and ideas

Technically the sevs "should" be ok with everything on your list, however if you get a grumpy cichlid nothing will fit in with it. However as they are both young and will grow up with the gourami you maybe ok.

Well that brings the one issue, the size of the severums will get to. Now the gouramis are all basically full grown but with those two severums would the tank be too overcrowded if I got rid of the rasboras and pair of kribs to the other tank and kept the rest of the stock? My filtration is sitting at 95g got a 35 g filter and the 60g filter in the 55g tank.

There is a chocolate severum witch I have and they are about 6" and I have had them 3 years. And they was with my discus fish for 2 years.

well the rule of thumb is that a pair of severums are good in a 55 gallon tank but thats it, no more fish when full grown they usually need more than a 55, as severums grow to 10", 12" so no a 55 is not a good choice for a pair of severums especially if theyre both males, and all those fish will be chaos in a pair of years not bc of the filtration but because of the size and stress of other fish
