Severums Firemouth Convicts?

Is this the tank you are talking about? http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquariums/fluval/fluval-vicenza-aquarium-sets/fluval-vicenza-260-aquarium-and-cabinet-black-titanium-and-zebrano.html?ref=googlebase

If you put those mesaurements into the calculator, it comes out as a maximum capacity of 356L. Baring in mind that is with the tank full pretty much to the brim.

That is one of the tanks we're talking about (that and the Juwel 260), puting them dimensions a calculator gives 365 because the advertisement states the tanks maximum width, at 18" but the tank is not 18" wide all the way along, which is what I've been trying to explain. The tank is bow fronted, meaning a its a lot narrower at the edges. The link you provided even states the tanks maximum capasity at 260 litres.

Yep, I agree with you. You measure the front at the widest point, however you don't get that length all along the tank as it curves inwards. The plan you posted even backs this up, as it shows that it is measured at the widest point.

Yeah, I saw you edited it, but I had already posted.

So to summarise, and draw and end to this hopefully :p, there's no way either tank holds 360 litres. 260 litres maximum.

Also regarding the calculators, they have to be taken as a guide only. For example with my Aqua One tank. If I input the exact calculations into the calculator it comes out that my tank is 220L, which it isn't. However if you think about it, it isn't filled right up to the brim, so if you subtract the measurement from the water level then you get a better idea of the tank's volume, which in this tank's case is 190L. Then accounting for decorations etc...

Tanks are never filled up to the brim, more like to the rim/lip. I don't think they are even meant to fill up to the brim, which is probably what the lip is there for.

The manufacturer's spend a long time working these calculations out, so I am happy to go with their guidelines.

I'm not being funny or awkward, but I am baffled as to why you could add an extra 120L to the manufacturer's claimed water volume? That's a huge difference. You're claiming almost an extra 50% volume because of a small bow.

To the OP yes I believe this will work as they are all still young. You already stated you were going to thin out as they mature so go for it and post some pictures! :good:
will possibly go for it and yes will post some pics when i get them
thanks

i have filled my vivion 180 up with a 10 ltr bucket and i used 17 buckets, so 170 ltrs, my point is what they say is max and in reality is less, if it was 300ltr + they would sell it as 300ltr + as they would sell for more money hence more profit. if i wanted to sell my 180 ltr tank i wouldnt advertise it as 100 ltr.

Exactly :) The quoted tank volume given does not take into account substrate or decoration, so it is always going to be LESS than the quoted volume, not more. Indeed if a tank is 260L (realistically, more like 250L) it is advertised as a 260L, sometimes the model name reflects the volume e.g. Vision 260.

I am still baffled as to why someone would think that a slight bow front would mean an extra 120L, and why they think they know more about it than the tank manufacturer's? Surely it was bought as a 260L. For what it's worth I have seen the Fluval Vicenza 260 in real life, and noway is it 380L. It's a nice tank though, for sure :good:

I really dislike my username being sullied to 'back up' any claims being made here. And its Minxfishy btw.

For those who maybe the slightest bit interested and havent lost the will to live yet, here is the original thread regarding the size of glenbos tank: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=291604&hl=vincenza&st=60

Please note I used the calculator on this forum and the tank sizes GIVEN in this thread, which as we all know where wrong anyway!!

On a futher thread, here: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=299721&view=&hl=vincenza&fromsearch=1
I again queried the tank size stated.

Frankly, I couldnt give a monkeys a*se about the size or lack of it, of the tank, but I dont like my 'name' being used over and again with the intention of making me out to be the one in the wrong. With the correct information in the 1st place, errors like these can be avoided. C'est La Vie.

Ciao

I'm just hoping Minxyfish sees this thread to explain to you about tank dimensions like she did me.

Well, minxfishy has seen the thread now.

I really don't see what the problem is. No one is trying to be nasty to you by making out that your tank is smaller than it is. It is 260L, which works out as 69g.

I can understand you are upset, as you have obviously stocked it thinking it's 100g, but a little Googling tells you the tank size of all branded tanks.

You are rather!!! why I take on fish from Minxyfishy and other forum members has nothing to do with you! I offer to help where I can because I know most people would hate to see fish returned to shops or loose them alltogether, thats why I offer to take fish long or short term!
