i have 2 severums im trying to breed.
how much do gold severum babys go for, how many eggs do they normaly lay, how big are the baby severums when they hach?

Price depends on your local market. A large pair can easily lay a couple of hundred eggs, the fry are small when they hatch and at free swimming they are maybe 1/8 - 1/4 inch.

a 3 inch ish gold severum near me would be selling at an lfs for about £5-6. if you sell to the shops then they generally give you 1/3-1/2 of their prices and most will offer store credit not cash unless you get lucky and fins one willing to part with their cash......

so you will be looking at about say £2-£3 ish per fish. you need to cover the costs you have made for water, electricity, food, dechlorinator, tanks, heaters, filters etc etc etc.

you may get slightly more selling them privately but this will be a much slower and longer process meaning they are costing you more to feed and look after in the long run. people will buy 1 at a time or maybe a small group of 3-4 to get a pair themselves knowing what potential size these fish can reach.

cichlids normally lay a large amount of eggs. ive never had severums lay eggs before but going on my experiences with other cichlids i would say it could be up to 200 eggs each lay, maybe more..... not all are guarenteed to hatch and survive though and unless the parents are in their own tank eggs will be eaten by tank mates especially at night. you will also need quite a lot of grow out tanks for the juvi fish once they make it past the fry stage.

good luck with them :good:
