The eggs should be a creamy colour. If they are solid white they are infertile. In terms of hatching it can vary a bit but roughly 4 days is about right.
They can eat the fry and will if they think they are under threat. If this is their first attempt at spawning it is highly likely they will fail. It can take them time to get into the hang of parenting. Once they get into the hang of it they should guard their young from preditors and raise them
Most Cichlids are amazing parents and only eat fry if they feel stressed. My young severum just laid eggs today I was shocked. I did not want them to grow up the mother is deformed my other fish ate the eggs.
