yesterday i bought a very small turquoise severum. its about a 1/2" long. I am going to let him grow out untill i move him from my 55 to the 100. about how long will it take for him to be able to move over? I would like for him to be at least 3" before the transfer.

here is a picture

My severum grew quite quick, had him about 1 year 4 months, he grew fairly rapidly to 6" or so then slowed down alot and has definately bulked out (hes around 8" now and thick). To get to 3" I would say anything from 3-5 months depending on feeding/water conditions.

Oh, I usually feed my fishes two times daily brine shrimp, blood worms, hikari pellets, spirulina tablets. I do a weekly water change. I havent checked my water parameters today so I cant give an accurate description of them.

I don't want to hijack your thread but I've also been wondering this.

Is it different for males and females? Mine is a female and i've had it since Aug 2007 and she's only about 4".

I have a green and gold severum, the gold one is the newest, i have had her for a few months and she has grown quite a bit. My green severum I have had for 6 or 7 months and she was a bit bigger than the one in the pic but not much, she is now 6 inches and pretty thick. Once they hit that size they slow down the growth alot. I feed my fish flake 2-3 times a day and bloodworm every second day, do something similar to that and you will notice a difference in a month probs

Hmm, I wouldn't be 100% sure on the growth rates between male/females, but I would have thought generally males would grow faster (as they get bigger overall).

So I would expect males to grow faster than females if they had the same conditions/diet etc.
