erm not a question I think that has been asked before - but actually quite a good idea in a way.

Severums will always eat plants which is annoying but your kind of right if you could do something with a kind of caging it might work but you have to be clever with how you did it so that the fish still had plenty of room.

There are some metals that are fish safe but not sure what the effects are from it over a long time - same with plastics really. You could use twigs from some types of wood that might work?

Okay, only problem with it is - 1 where did it come from? 2 is the plastic fish safe? 3 it is taking up a lot of space....

One thing I found with my sev is if I buy large mother plants from somewhere like Java Plants or Plants Alive (online plant shops) they will leave them alone and the plants all thrive.

I really wish mine would let me have giant valis but she mows it down within a week but I love the look of a tank with it growing over the top.

the plant protector is only in tat corner and so its not very big. I plan to put a rock or something in front of it so its more hidden. its made out of an under-gravel filter plate so it is aquarium safe.

Ah cool yeah good idea with the materials :)

i plan to get some more plants today and maybe some little bulbs to crow in there :)

Weird my severum comes up to the glass if anyone comes in the room but he is almost 4 years old and 8" he is my baby. More of a pet then any fish I have ever had.

Sometimes fish are extra edegy when water condition are not right? Add hiding places helps and try hand feeding . Fish can be trained. Is he wild caught because ime wild caught fish are always a bit more skittish?

Yeah I hope my Severum gets to that point, he is bought out of the fish store so no I don't think he is wild. I recently made a nice sized cave for him and he spends a lot of time in there. I have began to feed him by hand and he seems less upset after these changes. He is only about 2 years old and around 5 inches so he is fairly young but he is the best pet I have had by far. Is there anything else I could do to help him feel more at home or less skittish?

What about getting some more fish? As dithers. Nothing big. You say you have tiger barbs? I would up the number of them as they are very active. If there's active fish in the tank it may make your sev feel a bit safer. That and putting a background on your tank will look a bit more boxed in and not so open.
Nice set up too by the way :good: sev's a beast!
