Hey I'm new to this site and what an awesome site it is
I have an empty 6 ft tank and want to fill it up with Malawi cichlids
I'm fairly new to this hobby
Probably a year into it
Have kept bettas and electric yellows
I have got an external filter
Can't remember how big but it's big. The lfs said it would suit my tank
This will slowly be setup due to money wise
But next on my list is the substrate
I was thinking about sand

What's a good sand? Or any ordinary sand will do?
Also any suggestions on what types of cichlids would go well together I want to research them first
Definately gettin the elec yellows
Mate told me not to get peacocks as they are fairly aggressive

there are too ways you could go with substrate that i know either get a few bags of coral sand this would also buffer your pm to 8 ish which is needed but that amount of coral sand could be costly. or get play sand from the likes of argos and then add ocean rock or the equivanlent to buffer the pm that way sand would be cheaper but its up to you. if you do get play sand make sure you give it a very very good wash first and then when you put it in dnt have your filter running till its cleared the water etc.

there may be more choices but there the once that i know.
