Any tips on setting up business?

I have an Idea to set up an outlet in my home city, from a permanant market stall (more like 'real' premises than a stall). I would like to sell aquatic 'hardware' and foodstuffs etc. but not fish. This is because the Hall is not heated and I think that in the evenings the heaterstats would struggle!
I feel there is a real market for such a stall because there is no longer anything like it in the city, they are all on the outskirts. The footfall is good, I would be surrounded by Butcher, Fruit and veg stalls etc (You name it), and also a cafe on the top floor...
The only problem I have is backing. To get a business loan I have to front 30% of capitol, bank make up rest in a loan. Have written to Hagen to see if they do backing in return for advertising and equipment stocking agreements.

Any advice would be welcome

Tim

before setting up a stall, you might want to see if you could put some of your wares in already established lfs. or are you going to sell existing products? also join some of the local fish clubs and get your name out.

Do a survey of the people walking there perhaps they are not fish keepers at all!!

Already had a no from Hagen!! Maggie may have a point... petfood discount store around corner from here with good size premises, may approach them to see if they're interested in giving over part of building/investment in return for shares in profit or something along those lines, worst they can say is no. They have no fishkeeping products there at all save for the odd pot of Goldie flake!! And there IS a market, especially if you can undercut the Garden Centres (which shouldn't be difficult). Only 1 other aquatic retailer of note within 10 miles ( I kid you not ) and he only does fish!! And we're in an urban residential area with a main road going past.. ;)

have you tried the prince's trust or even benefits agencies? that's assumming you are in uk, there are quite a few places that might help you.will ask husband when he gets in he's a business man he should know more
