Ok so you guys are saying if im not going to be feeding the live/frozen food to give him a shelled pea once a week and to fast him once a week to? I just want to make sure im understanding you! :)

But guess what? I caved... I went out and bought another :D Its the one I saw last night with the red body and half red than white fins
I was dreaming about him all night LOL So I decided it was sign. Hes a cutie!

So I decided to name my first betta "purple haze" - haze for short. Im still deciding on a name for my newest edition :*

So haze is a Multicolor Veiltail. What is my newest editions color? Is there also a site I can go to see the different variations?

Thanks :p

Your new one sounds like the butterfly coloration. Very pretty bettas they are. Welcome to the beautiful world of bettas and looks like you are getting a good start on Multi Tank Syndrome (MTS) and Multi Betta Syndrome (MBS) You'll have to start looking for MTS/MBS support groups in your area quick or you'll be doomed!!!

Bettamom - Yes thats exactly what he looks like  Well actually my bettas fins seem abit more white. He was the only one at the lps that looked like that - I had to have him :)

There were also others that were white that I really liked but I dont have a spot for others yet. Do you think it would be ok to get one and keep him in the cup that he comes in untill I can get another betta tank?

Hahaha, Multi Tank Syndrome (MTS) and Multi Betta Syndrome (MBS)... I defentally am having that right now! The lady in the lps said she had 20!!! I was like wow!

What are the colors that bettas come in? What are the colors that are rare and if I see one I should defentally get it!

Im really looking forward to this!

I have seen betta's that are white, yellow, marble, blue, green, red, orange, black and of course all the beauties that are marbled or more than one colour. It is impossible to stop at just one, or two, or three.....

Welcome to the club.

Well, white Bettas aren't terribly common, but they aren't exactly rare, either. When I was in Petsmart to get some dog food today, I saw three little white ones that just tugged my heart strings near to snapping (unfortunately, I was on my way after that to pick up SIX new Bettas, so buying one wasn't really an option).

Black is somewhat rare, especially due to the fact that black females of the melano variation (there are two types: melano and black lace, both are black) are almost invariably sterile. A true purple is rumored to be quite rare. I don't think I've ever seen a true purple.

When I was in the lps today there were a couple white ones with purple and than was a pure white one. I wanted to get him but dont have a place to keep him .... yet.... Thats why I was wondering if the white ones were rare.

Would it be ok to get him and keep him in the cup he comes in untill I can get him a proper home?

Thanks :D

I wouldn't.

Maybe you have a quart jar or so in the house? That doesn't make great permanent housing, but it'd do in a pinch as a temporary situation. It's better to have a home for a Betta, and THEN get the Betta, though.

I did find a half gallon tank that was in my house almost like the ones im using now :D Soooo that means I do have a home for a new little guy  I am going to find one that I really like and get one!

Also I notice my two boys that I have right now are very different from each other. "Haze" (my first) still seems very shy, mind you he is abit better from 2 days ago when I first bought him. My second one (who im still thinking of a name) is very social. He comes to the front of his tank to say hello to me!

Also is it normal to for haze to eat the food than spit it out? Because thats what hes been doing. My other eats it normally.

How many times a day/how many betta bites should be fed? I was thinking twice a day? But how many betta bites?

Thanks :p

id say you need at l;east a 1gal tank
no sharp things(fins could get torn)
only 1 betta per tank(unless you divide!)
some bettas can be picky with their food and are prone to finrot if kept in bad conditions
can be kept woth some fish (mainly cories)but not many

It's perfectly normal to spit out his food and then gobble it up again. He's chewing on it to soften it so he can eat it. If you want him to quit it, you can soak his pellets for 10-15 minutes before giving them to him in a small cup of tank water.

Twice a day is great for feeding. The amount depends on the Betta, but I think you'd be safe feeding them 3 in the morning, 2 in the evening, or the opposite. Feed less if they start to get fat, and feed more if they don't seem to be getting enough (like if they look way too skinny).

Ok thats a relief that its ok it he splits back out his food  But I havent seen him re eat it but he probably does??

Is it normal for them to just sit at the bottom of the tank? Im concerned about my newest... Oh, did I mention I got another one? Hes very light colored, I would say whitish/pink with a redish head  Hehehe :kana: What type of betta is he?

:D
