Hi Guys,

I'm trying to cycle a new 6g tank. I wanted to do a fishless cycle however i do currently have to snails in there. I've tested the water for ammonia and there there isn't much in there. There is an excellent aquarium place where i live and they are offering to give me as much gravel as i want from their existing tanks. The only issue is that i've not been able to find anywhere that sells pure ammonia for me to add to the tank and i'm afraid that the bacteria may die because of no food.

I've been adding food to the tank as though there where fish in there but is there another good way of getting ammonia in there without putting in fish? I've got a seperate 3g tank with a single betta in there and i was thinking of maybe swapping putting some of his old tank water in the new tank just to get the ammonia levels up. Any ideas?

I looked all over for ammonia that only had ammonia in it heh, then I finally found it in a grocery store. :)

I'm assuming cloudy ammonia (sold in shopping centre) isn't what we should be using? looks like some sort of cleaner

You can use ammonia solution cleaners to cycle the tank. However it should look like water and smell like death! Anything else has additives which are not helpful and do alot of harm, like soap which will make it foam when you shake the bottle. A cloudy cleaner will have something else in there so avoid it.

you can get it at a grocery store, don't bother going to your LFS cause they'll make you look like and idiot...... :D
