At those prices what you saw were almost certainly Asian gold arowana's (Scleropages formosus) which in Asia are status symbols and are said to bring good luck and prosperity to their keepers. They are a critically endangered species in the wild now so all the specimins in the trade must be farm bred and come with a microchip implanted in the fish and paper work to show the farm they came from. Personally i think that for a farm bred fish they are overpriced but as long as there is a demand for them they will continue to sell at silly prices.
