Hey all.
Just thought I'd show you some pics of my new Senegal Bichir, which I got today.
It's only about 2.5inches long, and as thick as a pencil.
Right now it's in a 2ft 15gallon, however will be moved to 3ft 30gallon when it's grown up to a size where it doesn't look like a worm to my Port Acara

Here's the 2ft tank it's acclimatising to. A sort of black water biotope, leaves and bits of wood. Home to 2 Hoplo Catfish.

Cheers for looking.
Oh, general tips and experiences appreciated.

be interesting to see that grow up, as mine was never that yellow when i got her at that size..

Tips, experiences, keep them stimulated, mine is very very interactive, to the point when im doing maintenance now, i literally have to lift her out of the way....as she just wants to see what im up to.

on a side note, Damn you for having Hoplo's, and damn them for not being African :(

So, you're thinking mine could end up being a slightly different colour to your's?
Ok, thanks, Ill keep that in mind.
Haha, yeah they're great. No idea on the sex of them, but they're very active and fun.
Not African, ah, so I guess you couldn't put them in your Juwel125 :(

Nope, i used to have a male and female Hoplo, but at the time didnt have the space for them so sold them :(

also, that reminds me, edit my sig and remove the 2 crapping machines

Cool! Thanks for the words of confidence. Hope mine gets to be like your's.

Just be sure to feed him enough good food!
I started feeding mine bloodworms when she was about 3", then when she made it to the 5 inch mark, I started putting some live ghost shrimp in the tank, and she started eating them like no other. Now that she's 10 inches, I feed her a mix of frozen krill, live ghost shrimp, and small guppies (my Marbled Sand Goby eats the big ones). It's really fun to watch them hunt for their food!
Cheers,
GobyMaster

Brilliant. Will do :)
Thanks for the info.

Looks cool as ever! I do admire your skills at aquascaping!

Loving the tank. I have to come check him out and you have to come see the new (minamalist compared to ur tanks. :p ) 3ft when it's properly cycled and up and running with it's Pulchra. Made a few slate caves, you can have a few if you feel like it?

Also if work gets in any more ropefish give me a shout, though I've also asked Thatchers (meh, Rodney said he'd get me free tanks and equip, I thought what the hell). They also have set up a Marine tank in there!!

Nice fish anyway love how cute he is!! I'm feeding the Delhezi and Snakehead a few prawns twice a week now! You gotta get your hands on some of them when he's big enough. Damn cute to see them swim around with them in their mouths. If you see any cool new channa etc. give me a shout.

I was thinking of doing some guppy breeding for live food when yours is old enough? Then we can both kind of benifit from it. What dya think?

Keep well! See you soon!

That's a cool looking fish. Don't they tend to get very large?

~WeeMan~

Cheers mate. It does look better in the flesh. Camera doesn't pick up much. Prawns are a good idea, will have to try them.
Regarding the Guppy breeding, I think it's an ok idea. So long as the Guppies are from a clean source and won't carry disease.
Fair enough that you asked Rodney but, free tanks and equip?!
Marine tank? Haha, ooh dear. He'll probably use an undergravel filter for that too

Thanks.
Senegal Bichirs can get up to 12" in the aquarium.
