I've been keeping tanks for about 5 years. I'm setting up a number of tanks at my school... a semi-aggresive community, peaceful community, inverts, betta, fiddler crabs... and one more tank. It's ten gallons with large piles of rockes and caves. I was wondering if I could put one or two small aggressive inhabitants in here.

A few requirements: eat dry food (not frozen, not live), tolerant of imperfect water quality (its somewhat "thrown" together from old tanks and a limited budget...), and tolerant of a little salt in the water. The last part is because prevoiusly the tank was a saltwater tank, and when it was disassembled it was just drained and put on a shelf. The walls of the tank are covered with a thin layer of salt creep which will not scrub off, and I assume will slowly leech into the aquarium.

At first I was thinking maybe 1 or two small chiclids, but I know they have a high pH requirement and dont know too much else about them. Small chiclids would be okay if I could just add water conditioner and maybe a simple buffer to make the water suitable, but because of the situation I cannot test and retest the water and worry over every little thing. Can anyone suggest a type of small aggressive fish that could be kept in here? I'd like to have a peaceful tank, semi-aggressive, and aggressive. Thanks in advance.

To be honest, although I have never kept aggressive fish I would not think that a 10 gallon would be the best place to do it properly.

Unless you would divide it and have 2 male bettas? Somehow I don't think that quite what you are after though...
