There is a small stand at my local flea market and they sell turtles and lizards and stuff. I was thinking my boyfriend and I could find a really nice pair of crowntails (since they draw the most attention IMO) and breed them. I have these shelves that are PERFECT for keeping the males in jars. Of course, it wouldn't be like I am going to start tomorrow. Probably next year or something after I finish school. I was thinking of purchasing a bunch of kritter keepers (the larger ones) by bulk and then decorating and aquascaping them really nicely. Then we could sell the nice kritter keeper and betta as a package. This way, the betta will have a nice home and not a tiny little bowl.

Do you think this would work? Also, my LFS sells baby brine shrimp so I could always get them there.

Sell some supplies for them too. Return customers are the way to stay in business. Fish need food, so get some cheap online & mark it up a bit.

 Well I was going to print out a laminate a nice write-up for them. With this website on the bottom. It will say "Have any questions? Call this number *insert cell phone here* or go to this website *post TFF beta section here*"

I would buy a huge bag of gravel (a few different colors) and some food online. I was thinking of getting clear film canisters and putting the food in there inside the "betta kit"

I am thinking maybe 24.99 for the kritter keeper, decor, food, dechlor, and betta. :dunno:

Even better, I can decorate them using sand as the substrate! :hyper: A 40lb bag of sand is only $1.67 at walmart. They also have river rock and brown pebbles for $1.67 a 40lb bag as well. Then I could probably find something more colorful at a LFS or online.

Okay. I added everything up and the cost per day would be $274.00 That includes the stand, 20 kritter keepers including the sand, silk plant/decoration, food, and dechlor.

Then I would sell each kit for $19.99 and I would make $400.00 if I sell everyone of them.

That doesn't include the cost of how much it will cost me to breed the bettas. Hmm...I wonder how much that would cost me. :dunno:

You could put bettatalk.com on there too if it was ok with the webmistress.

I think it's a sweet idea.
I'd go with colored gravel on the bottom rather than sand.
Because if you're going to be toting these things to a flea market, the sand will get stirred up and the tanks won't look as pretty. And besides, you'll probably sell a lot more if people have a really wide variety of colors to chose from in the tanks, ya know?

I'd never be able to do it because I'd never be able to let any of the little guys go that I had in my care. LOL

Lol, yea good idea. I was thinking of putting the boys in a glass or plastic jar. I'd probably donate the leftover crowntails to a LFS that keeps them in okay-sized jars. I would then have like 20 different colored kritter keepers (not all different but like purple, orange, blue, green, red etc.) and then the kid can ACTUALLY design his own tank. They'd pick out his own colored kritter keeper, then the gravel, then the plant/decoration, then the fish. Then the kit could carry the kritter keeper and I would put the plastuc jar inside. Something like a peanut-butter container or something. :D

My mom thought of this name "Creat-a Betta"

As for gravel, you could look aroound a garden centre and get gravel cheaper. You might not get the range of colours, but you would save some money.

Here where I live, I've seen people who lease a kiosk in the mall selling them. I can't rememberwhat the prices may have been, but it definitely sounds like you're on the right track!

Actually, not too long ago I saw the glass block ones at the mall, but that was before I knew anything about the bettas.

Keep the gears turning, sounds like a good idea
