hi just a quick question about my seimese fighter, it may or may not be an emergency but recently it has started to rest/lay on either some of the plant leaves or the gravel at the bottom of the tank, and then bursts into life swimming all over the tank. Is this normal behaviour, it has never done stuff like this before, and advice or ideas would be much appriciated. thanks adam

i believe it is normal behaviour for siamese fighters to rest on plants, but i dont know for certain, am sure a betta expert will be along to answer you soon

Mine do it every now and then.

If he tires himself out swimming all over the place he'll either take a rest at the bottom or on a plant, as noted above.

But this only lasts 30seconds to a minute at the tops.

If he's spending a lot of time at the bottom, then i'd be worried about him being lethargic.

A good way of rejuvinating your betta is to completely rearrange his tank. He may be bored of his area, so move it around and give him something new to explore, he'll thank you for it.

If your Betta is usually lively and now he has suddenly changed his behavior then this may be down to envirnoment. What are you water parameters?

i have as biorb biuble 60, so not a big tank really, more tall than wide

Bettas dont really need a large tanks but do appreciate it. Yours should be ok in this as long as water changes are performed reguarly. If you have missed one or two this may be the issue. Also make sure you match the fresh water to the tank water i.e PH and always de-chlorinate or preferably leave to age in a bucket with some acceleration.
A recent water change straight from the tap could be the cause. Watch closely and hopefully he will not show any other signs of ill health. If your betta worsens then write back
