Seeking More Interesting Critters...

I was wondering about that too. If I remember correctly, the Mexican orange dwarf crayfish (cambarellus somethingorother) is known to be plant-safe, as well as fairly safe with other small creatures.

It's not fair! :(
I wish they were legal in this country... I'd love to own a couple. They're so cute!

Crays: Not sure, do dwarf crayfish eat plants?

quite right.

Vampire shrip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are nocturnal, but make a really good addition to the tank. they get big though, 18cm or more. but well worth the price.

How about a Pink Amazon River dolphin (Inia geoffrensis)?

Hehe.. either your joking, or i'm googling this wrong. Ist that a 400 lb 8 foot swimming thing...

Squid

I would love a few myself. They look so sweet.

I was at Britains Aquarium Superstore a few days ago looking at the shrimp. They are usually good for them, even if they never have a clue what they are stocking. They had a load of different long arm shrimp in. I think they were chameleons, rusty red, red claws and one other I didn't recognise. I was sorely tempted to buy some. I managed to resist as they would need their own tank and would probably massacre each other.

I bought some Galaxy Rasboras instead, the ones they had hidden away for people who want to breed them. I also found one green shrimp they missed when selling them to another shop and some red-nose shrimp. :)

Heh... "Honestly, I had no idea. The shop told me they were shrimp!" :p
Nah, it's probably not worth the fine...

I wonder if we could campaign DEFRA to "recognise them as a tropical species". They plainly are, seeing as they're native to Mexico, and the orange ones are rare even in their natural habitat, seeing as they're so easy for predators to spot.

Hmmm... Say man, where is that place? Sounds like somewhere I'd quite like to have a wander around... :)

Man! I would really love to get hold of some of those dwarf Crays. they look amazing. Are they really ilegal here in the UK?

It's Bolton in what will become North-west England in 500 million years. They wholesale shrimp too so it's important to call before going any distance to see them. I often find they had great shrimp in yesterday but have sold them to another shop.

Here's their site

I only go there because they get in great livestock. The dry goods are expensive and mostly poor quality imports. The staff are over-worked and it's not always the most friendly place. If you go, look for the young guy with the goatee, he's very helpful and knows his stuff.
