Hey,

So I'm hopefully getting a new tank next week (woohoo!!) and just have a quick question about cycling. I know that if I move some of the filter media over from my other tank this will speed it up but can anyone tell mw how much filter media is safe to move over!?

In my current filter I have 2 filter pads (a carbon one and the other one). I was thinking of cutting the regular filter pad in half, moving half into the filter for the new tank and replacing it with half a new filter pad in the old tank (I really hope that makes sense! lol). Is that going to be ok? I don't want to remove all the good bacteria from the old tank!

And, if i did do that, would I have to go ahead with the fishless cycle aswell (and just have it go a bit quicker) or would I be able to stock straight away?

Sorry - i know this isn't the best written post ever but I hope someone can make sense of it! lol

Thanks

You don't want to move more than 25% of you established media in one go. The questions as to whether it is safe to stock strait away is a tricky one. I depends on the stocking in the existing tank, and the planned stocking in the new tank. IMO it is better to fishless cycle to be on the safe side.
