Second Planted Nano

The rotala rotundifolia and most of the hydrocotyle lococephala has been washed away by water changes and maintenance etc.But all other plants are doing great, and as soon as I trim the vallis or ludwigia in a week they grow literally 4 inches higher. :good: I think the tanks looking a bit tatty really (plants jsut don't fit in) and I want some nicer plants.Infact I have moved most the crypts from the left side as they were taking over the tank.Anyone please give me some suggestions for plants suited to my tank.I can have any plants really.I have co2, dose EI and 18 watts + a 24W T5 sunglow light.I'm thinking about entering it into the PFK competition.

To create an illusion of a bigger tank, you may want to try using smaller leafed plants. I can recommend Hemianthus micranthemoides and Micranthemum umbrosum.

It may not be feasible with the lighting level in this tank, though I do agree with you. It may be worth a try. I was able to grow HM well with 13W PC over 2.5g, but only when the tank housed numerous play fry, not when the tank housed a single betta, as it does now. I'm surprised R. rotundifolia didn't do well. What is the size in gallons, Cheesy feet, and did you upgrade your lighting? The crypts look really, really nice. :good:

The tank is just over 10 us gals (40 litres).I have a interpet 24 watt t5 daylight plus (sorry before I said sunglow, I was wrong) pc plus the 18watt light which came with the aquaqube.

I've removed most of the crypts from the right side as their growth was to overwhelming.Since I posted the pictures I took of some old anubias's leaves and am getting new ones. Also my riccia carpet is taking shape :good: Oh yeh, the rotala rotundifolia was in bad shape when I first put it in (as it was sitting in a bucket for a week) and as it had no roots everytime I did maintenance it basically become uprooted and slowly dissapeared -_- .Can't get any pictures up because my phone software won't recognise the usb :/
Thanks for the plant suggestion dave :)

how did u get the 24 watt pc light over the tank did u create a diy fixture or sumthing... cuz im looking to get another 18 watt pc light for my aquacube

Sorry didn't know you replied. It's jsut resting over the top of the tank with a reflector, I stretched the clip across both tubes.

I got some dwarf riccia of smithrc and decided to make a carpet.I first set it up like this, decided it didn't look good and changed it to one big carpet.I think i'm going to get rid of the crypts soon and get some smaller plants. For starters I should be getting some free HC from garuf! :good: I managed to knock the anubias's of, thats why it looks different :/

Heres the tank about 2 months ago, at its worst, when I had hardly any plants and hair algae was strong .I didn't take any pics of it as its best -_- (which was until today), or the layouts which I tryed out before I was satisfied.
This pic was taken during water changing, as you can see

I trimmed my mosses, anubias's, and hydrocotyle leucocephala and placed them all on different rocks, for my other nano's, one of which I am growing crypts for selling, and the other which now has my original 18 watt light, eco complete, wisteria, ludwigia and some baby sword plants which were near to death in my 2ft planted tank(which is also being used for crypts), wood and a few clumps/bits in a breeding trap to see how it will grow.
I've been running with two 24 watt t5's making growth tremendous, and the filter has been great.

pahh, tanks been looking goood lately but my newish expenisive phone just packed up for no reason atall so I have lost all my old pics I was going to upload and I can't take any more

aha found a few pics but there just of the anubias barteri eyes and a few other things, just after I redid everything to grow on some more plants, o well. The bands are all off now and that very colourful peice of bogwood you see is actually covered in flame moss, which when I trim I will have for sale.

I got some new additions to the tank.Ottos, 5 for £10 which didn't seem bad.
Havn't got a camera atm though so no pics :/

TBH, while I can see where you tank is going, and it'll probably turn out great, I really like the way it looked in late August last year. Your crypts were very lovely. But I have always been partial to crypts. A great plant.

Do not fear lol, I have other anubias and all my crypts in a 2ft, 20 gal.Barely any light but they still grow pretty fast with co2 the simple nutrafin yeast kit.
1 otto down, died a minute after added, I think it was down to stress but it looked skinny.I found it lying underneath the heater  All the others are out feeding, well all of them were anyway. They are really friendly. :good:

I spotted some real nice wood at an aquatic shop in ely for £10 and it was about 2ft in legth, there were loads of other nice peices aswell. So I'll probably go back some other time once I have stopped growing plants of on this tank.Which will be when I do the big switch over, all my fish from my 100gal to the 270 gal and my discus into my 100gal, which is going to be a heavily planted.

I plan to keep the hydrocotyle leucocephala, anubias barteri eyes on the red stone, and the little green ones to the front right (remembered it now, Pogostemon helferi ).The vallis just grows to long, most of the leaves reached over 4 ft!I've trimmed them down to nothing now as it was blocking out wayyy to much light. That big peice of wood is going into a different tank once my java fern had caught onto it.

I'm still packing my bags. Moving in next sunday! :hyper:

Its looking good, lol.
