I have just purchaced a secod hand uv sterilizer which came with no instruction manual so i have a couple of questions

its a vecton ultraviolet sterelizer the old type, it says its 11-13 watt and for 230 litres my tanks only 125(marine reef-ish), is this ok or is it possible to over uv?
My eternal filter which it is going on is a fluval 304 are these compatable?
This may seem like a stupid question but which way round does it go? as in which way does the water flow in and also which way is the bulb incerted? i assume that it dosent matter. i just dont want to make any big mistakes.
and is there anything else i shoud know? i understand that directly looking ta the bulb is damaging to the eyes but the way its made seems to prevent you from accidenty blinding yourself.

thanks for any replys

The direction of flow does not matter usually as a UV sterilizer is basically just a flourescent bulb with no phosphors inside a tube inside a pipe :). The largest concern with UV sterilizers (aside from not looking directly at the bulb) is flowrate. They have a specific flowrate they're designed for. Too slow and you don't move enough water to be effective. Too fast and parasites/bacteria/etc don't spend enough time in front of the UV light and only come out with a mild tan instead of impotent :)
