Sorry for all the new posts as of late.

I am looking into buying a second hand filter that has been used for three weeks on a marine tank. (Mine is tropical)
Obviously I will buy all new media for it, however, should I just wash out well with boiling hot water all the casings etc? It's a fluval 206 for a 54 litre (I know it's overkill) I run a 306 on my 180 litre.

just rinse out with lukewarm water, no need for boiling water, replace media and your fine

If you want to be better safe than sorry I'd use boiling water. It will contain salt which in small amounts can kill fish :p

Yes, as techen says, I would use boiling water too. Just to be safe and if anything else, give you peace of mind that its done properly :good:
