I can't tell you why. That is built into the board software and not a setting I can alter. There are a few things I would add to the board if it were possible but in most cases it's not.
 
One example that I am working on is to increase the number of recent posts shown on the right side of the home page. It bugs me I can't change it from 5 to 8. Not a big change it seems but that extra number means that one a busy day a post might get seen by more people and that member get more help. The ability to change that isn't built into the software...not even as a template edit. I did manage to find an add-on that allows it and it's in the queue to be installed.
 
I'm in the back of the site literally hours upon hours each week trying to find little tweaks to make it better. If I find a search tweak that works I will do it!

Fortunately the designers of IP.Board are very active and put out changes and updates often so you never know when they will made a great search.

A question for you tcamos: why does the search on "my Content" restrict the findings (Search limited from 03-May 03)?  If it could be expanded it would assist in finding all content a member had posted?

 
 
Can I ask why you need to search something prior to 10 years ago?

I consider myself to be an excellent searcher.
 
The search function on this site is basically useless. It finds nothing. The only thing useful is the find my content link and for that one doesn't need the search page.
 
I have pretty much given up trying to find anything using the internal search function here. As noted above Google will do a better job of finding things on this site than the site software itself.

Just for kicks and giggles I went into search settings and found a couple of things that might help. First, it was set to AND searching instead of OR. That means if you enter "Dog's Rule" it will only return results that contain both words. I changed it to OR, we'll see what that does but that allows results to return that have either Dog's OR Rule in them and does not require both.
 
I just checked again...it was set to traditional search and not Sphinx. I changed that. Sphinx is a full text search which is much more powerful though it taxes the server more. That said the site was moved months ago to a new robust server that can handle it.
 
It also had a day limit set on it so that it would only show results within a certain number of days from the user's last post.
 
Let's test that out and see if it changes anything.
 
It won't start working until the site rebuilds the index during auto-maintenance which happens every Sunday.

How do you Quote People? to assist someone else struggling with this feature.  SO...
 
I went to search the word quote and got...
One or all of your search keywords were below 1 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords.
 
So I tried the full title in the search and noted it removed the word QUOTE from the search term.

WHY?  
 
Thank goodness for the "My Content" option, I have to use this often when the search fails me
