Sealant?

I'm wanting to make a slate cave for tank as i have lots of spare slate but i was wondering the best way to stick it together.
I have lots of household silicon, mostly "soudal silirub 2" this is clear and i think pure silicon, would this be ok? i dont want to spend a fortune on aquarium sealant as i only need a very small amount.
Any advice would be appreciated

I also have a hot glue gun and read that hot glue is safe to use? it will only be a tiny amount so i think it will be ok.

I always use Aquarium Grade Silicon. Not expensive and very fish safe

No, normal silicones have added chemicals in them that would leach out, i cant think specifically which chemicals but ones aimed at bathrooms and kitchens have anti mould type chemicals.

You can pick up a tiny tube of Geocel Aquarium Silicone for between £2 and £5 which isnt a bank breaker...

any "aquariums safe" silicone will do. i buy Hodgsons @ £4.99 for 310ml. as there is no such thing as "Aquarium Grade silicone". so yes, if a tube of silicone says "aquarium safe", even if it has a boat on it. its fine in a tank.. you can, of cource, buy 100ml tube for £9.99 (this will have a fish on it ) from your lfs. or go get a tube from a DIY shop, @ 1/2 to a 1/3 0f the price for three times as much. chances are both came form the same maker and, probably from the same production line.


don't worry, there is no such thing as an Aquarium specific or grade silicone. buy with confidence, and save a bomb.
