what about some kind of algae like caulerpa? i dont know much about seahorses but i think people use it.

hi,

What type of seahorses? As already suggested there are a number of macro algaes which would work very well as hitching posts. The added advantage being that they are easier to grow, help with the water quality and also help increase pod populations.

I wouldn't recommend using any kind of coral for hitching posts. The constant hitching of the seahorses will stress and kill most corals pretty quickly.

If all else fails use acrylic rod. Get a nice bit of reef safe rock (LR if you are using it) get some acrylic rod and cut it into 2-3 inch lengths and then drill holes in the rock and push the rod in. Might not look great to start with but it will eventually get covered in coraline algae anyway (you could always cover them in a smear of marine putty to help blend them in).
