I have been reading up a bit about Seachem Purigen and tried my local fish shop to no avail.

So I will have to order it in via internet.

A few questions prior to buying,my filter system consists of a tray mounted on top of my tank with a spray bar,the water goes through black foam, filter pad and xtra wool to help clear the water and then carbon. On the other side its the same except my noodles sit in the bottom of the tray.

Would i use purigen on both sides, do I remove the carbon bags and replace it with purigen and would i also remove the noodles and replace with purigen.

What mim size would I buy to use on a 80ltr tank.

Thank you.

Just wondering why you need it?
I wouldn't replace the ceramic noodles - these are there for the beneficial bacteria to grow on.

if the problem is water clarity (i.e. particles floating in the water) then you need some fine mechanical filtration media like filter floss. You can buy a great big bag of floss for a pond filter for about £2 and it'll last for ages. you just replace it every 2 weeks or so.

I would avoid chemical filtration where possible, it can mess with all sorts of unexpected things, you need two sorts of filtration media

biological - somewhere for the bacteria to grow
mechnical - something to pick up the debris and particles

get these working well and you will have perfect water in terms of clarity and chemical levels.

Thanks Miss Wiggle,I have put additional floss in,this helped alot,I am due for another water change/clean so i will add more to the filter system, the biological side seems all ok just the final filtering side for those very fine particles.

Thank you.

Purigen removes nitrogenous waste and various other water discolourants to give what appears to be clear water a final polish, making it crystal clear.

All my tanks are filtered with a turn over around x10, yet I still find Purigen makes a difference. It may not be the case for everyone, but if it is crystal clear water that is the final target, I can recommend Purigen.

Dave.
