Seachem Excel To Cure Hair Alge

So I am on day three. the 1st day I added it to the 55 gal ( which was far worse off) this is what the algae looked like attached to my filter arm

I did a double dose for after a water change the 1st day and then a double dose of the regular ammount everyday after that

Today it looks like this

I am stopping the treatment in the 20 gal as all my plants are suffering at this point, i'm not sure why but it is way worse looking then the small amount of algae in that tank

The BBA turning red is a sign it's dieing. It seems to be working a 2x the rate but am fairly sure 3x is generally accepted as the rate needed, but if 2x is working then carry out with that :)

The strangest thing has happened,

My black rainbow shark has disappeared, this happened at exactly the same time as I began to add the excel, now ALL the other fish seem just fine so I am fairly confident that it isn't becuase I added it( including a albino rainbow shark so it isn't just the species) but I am going to do a water change this weekend and hopefully I can find the body (I have searched the tank for days to with no results)

Question though, If I do a 20% water change do I again need to do the huge dose (meationed on the bottle as needed after a 40% water change)?

Well I am on day 8 and almost all signs of the black hairs are gone in the 55 gal. I halted the process in the 20 gal some 3 or 4 days ago as my plants were all dying and looking very unhealthy. I can't say for sure if this treatment is a good thing or not .

I had a bit of hair algea in my 10 gallon, so i have been adding excel at the recommended dose, not x2 or x3 or anything. Within two days the algea is red so its dying and the fish are all fine. :good: I use it in my 55 gallon to and there is not a sign of any form of algea anywhere. I love this stuff.
