Im just wondering if anyone has one of these. Ive always wondered if something like this was on the market because most of us wouldnt know if we had an ammonia problem until either fish died or we did our liquid test. I sure cannot afford to do liquid tests every day.
http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/misc.htm its about 8 products down

I know somebody who used to use a similar product. For long term use, they end up being about as expensive as strips for daily testing. When she wasn't testing daily anymore, strips were cheaper, and liquid tests much cheaper, as she could stretch an API kit for six months before some of the individual tests started running out, at which point, most of the individuals are $5-7 to replace.

These just sit in the tank on display so you canglance at them and know what the ammonia level is. They last up to a year

Don't count on that - hers would start showing trace levels of ammonia after about 2 months at best, even in good water. They also don't adjust quickly, they'll miss temporary ammonia spikes (though unless you test at the right time, so will any other kit). If they ever did give a reading, it also never seemed to go away, meaning once you get a temporary ammonia level, say after stirring up the gravel a bit, you're out for a replacement.
