i was under the impression that in order to keep seahorses, of the marine variety, you have to register, and every few months or so someone from the preservation society comes around to check on the tank, the surroundings and that the seahorses are receiving everything they need to survive. i don't think that just anyone is allowed to keep seahorses.
i have done some research into these types of species, and here is what i found (already posted this on the other section concerning freshwater seahorses)
have just done a quick search on Hippocampus aimei (freshwater seahorse), and according to some sites it does exist, they live in the mekong river, which is in vietnam, apparently it is a very new species (to us), and they are facing extinction (found this on a site about extinction .. quite formal, the ones that state that the species doesn't exist appear to be more amateurish and therefore leading me to believe that the species does exist, but very little is known of it)
however other sites state that the species does not exist.... i'm at a loss..
