id have to disagree. I can vouch my dads experience and a host of other friends who have no problems. Also try googling "are neons good starter fish for new set ups" hundreds of links and articles all saying yes.

IMO its a misconception that they are starter fish, neons need stable water params, which a new tank cant give, well thats my opinion anyway lol.

i would say it depends on your area personally i have kept neons though cycling and for a good 8 or so years after that.

i find i can't keep cardinals but can neons!
