I bought a pair of these fish fish a couple months back and added them to my 20gal planted tank. Neither of them lived very long  and they where wonderful fish. I am currently working on a 2.5gal tank and am planing on having it planted, it will also be open topped like my other one. I wondering if a pair of these fish (dario dario) along with some cherry shrimp could fit in this tank.

Thanks,

Scarlet Badis are better in nano-tanks than big tanks, as they are not the most aggressive feeders. They also generally don't accept flake, though mine liked bloodworms quite a bit. It was happy in a 5.5 gallon which at that time contained some Boraras and african dwarf frogs. My Scarlet Badis died in the most ironic way. I switched to a sponge filter in the tank in order to help more shrimplets survive, and he managed one day to wedge himself between the sponge filter and the wall (they are natural cave-makers) and apparently suffocated in there.

Be careful if you get a "pair" as the bright red ones are all males, which are generally territorial with one another. I would personally say that one would be fine for a 2.5, but a real breeding pair should be in a 5.5

don't know about a proper pair, but two males most definately would not. I had two males in a 20 gallon and they still fought. And still found one another quite a bit in the 29. persitent buggers, that's for sure. That said, they can go in any size tank, it's just dependent on its inhabitants. Mine lived with tetras and rams and had no problems getting food - though they were admittedly slow about getting it. Having only kept the two, though, it's possible I had the exception to the rule.

Mine also lived on bloodworm quite happily. They LOVE java moss and caves.

Would a single male be compatible with a small school of corydoras in a nano tank?
