i woke up today and my bettas scales on it’s belly is coming off. he has dropsy so i was doing epsom salt baths. i don’t know if i can still do them because i don’t want to burn his lungs or anything like that. is it still safe?

Fish have gills, not lungs, but yes you can give him Epsom salt baths. However, be careful lifting him out of the tank. Try to keep him in water and not actually lift him out of the water because the weight of his body on the bloated belly can cause damage to his insides.

thanks. it actually ripped more and i can see his insides. can i still give an epsom salt bath?

If the fish's belly has opened, it is best to euthanise it.

Wrap it in a couple of paper towels and whack it on the head with a hammer or piece of wood. Do it outside coz it gets messy.

If you can't do that, stick it in a small bowl of tank water and put it in the freezer until it's frozen, then bury the ice block in the garden.
