Yah... So I love pearl gourami... But explain this:
images.jpeg

It's supposed to be a balloon pearl gourami.

For what reason what so ever mainly in Asians countriea balloonversions of fish are liked. Don't understand it for a bit.
Yup... Definitely agree. Doesn't make sense

Photoshop...I abhor "balloon" fish, but that image is obviously altered...if it's a real image to begin with

You think so??... or is the fish just that messed up

Even if that photo is altered, they do exist, along with a lot more deformed "balloon" varieties of fish, more than the mollies etc we're used to

If you look at the article you'll see more pics of other balloon bred species... :(

I think it's disgusting. Deliberately breeding deformities into fish that will negatively affect their quality of life and likely their health in the long term, just in the hope of selling them because they're unusual. But then I also disagree with breeding the deformed breeds of dogs that struggle to live well as a result of extreme breeding practices.

Disgusting, hideous, and inhumane.

The sheer number of balloon fishes that have appeared on the market in the last few years would suggest this is not from selectively breeding mutated fishes, but is more likely to be genetic manipulation. I think the Asian breeders have found the gene to cause the horrible shape and are using it on every fish they can.

It is my opinion that the people doing this should be locked up for the rest of their life and a world wide ban put on making fish like this.

I have written to my government about these balloon fishes and asked them to make a law banning the importation and keeping of them, but have not heard anything back. I would suggest other people around the world write to their governments and urge/ suggest the governments put bans on importing these types of fish due to animal welfare reasons.

  • The fish can't swim properly.
  • They can't display properly.
  • They can't digest food properly.
  • Their internal organs are squished up and this has to cause some discomfort to the fish.
  • They die much earlier than normal shaped fish of the same species.
Nobody should buy balloon fish, and everybody should try to get them banned.
