Another thing I need advice on.

I'm going for black sand but which brand and type? (Coarse/fine?)

And how much (kg) for a 450l tank containing a couple of oscars?

:)

Edit: I've been told 2 x 20kg bags is about right. Any advances on this?

I wouldn't know how much to add but I love the imagitarium brand. It doesnt cloud up, but I'd still rinse it before adding. Black sand is a great choice... Looks great

Another option is unipac Limpopo sand. It’s more of a dark grey, but creates a nice contrast.

There are quite a few online calculators that’ll help you figure out how much sand to buy. You just need to know the grain size and tank dimensions and it’ll give you a figure based on how deep you want your sand bed to be.

Interesting I may be back to the drawing board with this...I'm now reading that Oscars aren't great with sand due to the mess they create.

What does everyone think on the sand vs gravel thing and if gravel is the way to go, what brand do you recommend?

Ta!

Well, if by "mess" you mean digging, dont get gravel. Gravel would scrape their scales. Sand is softer for diggers
