Sand

I am thinking of setting up a planted aquarium with my extra ten gallon and I'd like to use either sand or Eco complete (or a mixture). If I were to use sand, how many pounds per gallon should I estimate to buy? What about eco complete? How much for a ten gallon? Also, how deep should the substrate be for plants?

I use 15 pounds of sand for my aquarium, however it depends on the surface area of the bottom of your tank. I'd say around 3 inches deep for plants.

The bottom of my tank is 12" x 20'. How deep did it make your sand?
