I was thinking of using a fine grain sand, like white sand instead of using gravel.
is this O.K.? if so do I need anything special cause I am using this instead of rock.

Sand is fine. Just a few thing to get you all ready - ready this and you can reply to it for more questions too. - Sand Talk

I read that link, you wouldn't happen to know where to get sand, or what type to get.

I know i want the finest grade white/cream sand possible, but is there any technical term i can use when trying to find it.

Yes, well I have very fine, creamy, white/silver sand that looks great and was designed for eels and kuhlliis! So got a really good deal on sand for that. I got it from a LPS so you get the best sands there.

you wouldn't happen to know how much I am going to need do you?

tank is 6 1/2" long, and 18" wide, 24" Tall (Approx)

can you put live plants in sand?

perhaps 10kg will do maybe even 5kg - your sounds like a vertical tank, and yes, you can put live plants in the sand.

May be going out on a limb here, but can't you just go to the local home improvement store and get playsand. Get the type that is silica, (read glass), and you should be fine. Cheap too.

Well ventured into the pet store for some sand bed, and the price about blew me out of the water. So being as skilled as I am, I went to the hardware store and for 6$ a bag I bought 2, 100lb bags of Silica Sand, its very fine grain white/cream sand, and a heck of a lot cheeper.

Lol 3 diffrent pet stores wanted from 150-300$ for enough sand.

I been cleaning the sand alot before I put it in the tank.

wow, 150-300 for sand? Well mine was called "Eelsand" and it was about $8. Good luck with the sand and all. :)

not sure if you can or not, but I am not using that type of power heads in mine, I am using the one that you mount anywhere in the tank.

I think i am going to get 2 x 495 GPH 4' Elevation (what ever that mean's)

was thinking about 4 of them, but not sure what all I need.

I have decided to get two Magnum 350 Pro's though, maybe a Pengiun 330 in the middle for messure ;P

nice to see its going smoothly xfactor.

btw, UGF's are not reccommended for sandy plain freshwater setups as the sand is usually packed and doesn't do much to clean. And UGF's are useless in any gravel IMO. just the cleaning thing every year totally mucks up your tank and is just a nuisance.
