Hi everyone!
So I am starting the first new fish project very soon and I know the other fish are compatible in this specific tank but I’m wondering if the salvini will fit in or if it will be too aggressive. Tank mates would be a jack dempsey and a convict cichlid possibly two convict females depending on a lot of factors :)

I know nothing about these guys. But the only cichlids I know to take on convicts or Jack dempseys is Oscars, so I would say it will be fine and watch the Salvini, as it could get the crap beaten out of it.

Always risky adding more cichlids to an established hierarchy or will the jd and convicts be new buys the same time ?
I’d also be worried about it being Bullied

I have a female salvini in my tank. I got a little carried away and had 3 convicts, neon blue Acara, aureus cichlid and 3 sevrums. Diddnt go to plan. The problem with having lots of convicts is that they breed like crazy. The pair took over one corner on the tank and when the babies popped all hell broke out. I immediately took the babies out, rehomea the female convicts and the sevrums. Took the remaining fish out and reacaped the tank and only kept the salvini, acara, aureus and the male convict. Its all smooth so far. Every one knows there place in the tank and got there own little area. Well we always learn in this hobby. If you do want to add a salvini get them young and let them grow up together. Salvins are gorgeous fish.

I adore salvinis but I'm also weary of them as the prize fish for me is the dempsey, sounds like a very interesting setup! I was planning on two female convicts as I know they will still probably lay eggs but without 1000s of unwanted fry is the goal haha. How is your salvini with your male convict? I'm one of those people who really like convicts even though most people would call them boring and common haha! Would love to see pictures.

Salvinis are so beautiful. People think just because a fish like a Dempsey is bigger in size they would bully the salvini. I think salvini might end up being the boas of your tank. I love convicts too. They are beautiful. They are also tough as you get. In my tank when the convicts layed the eggs the pair together held their own for sure. The salvini had no chance. This is why i had to change it up as she was my prized fish. The convict by him self now dosent get in the way of the salvini so its all good

Wow she is a real stunner! And yeah I think you are right.. Everyone seems to think dempseys are big bad fish but in most cases I've heard the dempseys are the bullied ones.

Yes you are right. However you get a jack Dempsey thats a bad ass too. All depends on the fish i would say. Just try your option and see what happens. Have a back up plan just incase. Good luck
