Hi guys, after the tragic death of my 2 firemouths, 1 died unexpectedly and the other was bloody squashed when my partner but a HUGE rock on top of her, i feel a need to restock...properly.

My current setup is
200L 48x12x21 APS 1000 external filter
Going for an amazon/biotope look
12 columbian tetra
3 melini corydoras

I would like if this is possible, to go with my tetra and corys, or I could adapt them...

2 salvini cichlid
4 angels

OR

2 salvini cichlid
2 firemouth cichlid

or should I just go with the salvini? I want salvini as im after a larger cichlid with some colour, the new worlds seem quite dull.

I think your tank might be too small for the salvini and angels. What are the dimensions?

Oh just seen them there. Whats the height?

21" high, from what im reading and other advice the little salvini is quite a brute I may have to leave him out, I just want a bit of colour!

Sorry to hear about the second FM. :(

Get a pair of Salvini, they're brilliant. No other Cichlids though.

I would move/rehome the Cories too. Make the CRFT's up to 15.

The tank is underfiltered too IMO. The 1000 is rubbish.

ahh right, I thought it was adequate :( I like the plan, im selling my pair of double red apisto agassizi's and i'll rehome the corys, shame that theyre cool but hey sacrifices must be made and Ill up the tetra shoal :)

What are Savini's like as singletons as i would like one in a SA/C American cichlid community 5'x2'x18" tank ..... Is it possible?! .
Aplogies Mr. V for piggy-backing just thougjt i could Sk the question on the same subject of Salvini's. Seen a pic of these the other day and i thought WOW, they are stunning!!! .
Hope you get your stocking sorted ... Tank stocking!!

I have a female, very placid so far although growing in size she seems to be finding her feet, had her for around 6 months from about an inch long with no colour to what she is now

Salvinis are very hit and miss, always be prepared to rehome or separate, they are not like Thorichtys species in that they are all mouth, if you got a nasty onethey will chase down and rip fish to shreds, they have very sharp little Teath but there not all bad. Females have better colour and are smaller.

Yep, stunning fish you have there Liam .... I want, i want, i want!!! . Not sure if i can have one but i want one anyway .... Lol.
Liam, what is your Salvini in with please?
Will they go with other S/C.Americans such as T-bars, blue acaras, Geo Tapajo's and EBJD's?
Truly beutiful fish ..... Sooooo jealous!!! lol.

T bars and blue acaras are relatively docile. I'd say no on those. Don't know about geos, but it would be okay with Jack dempseys if there tank is big enough. But ebjds are prone to genetic defects and dying for no apparent reason. Waste of money if you ask me, unless you can find the nearly non existent quality bred stock.

My salvini is in with Severums and elliotis cichlid wise and also hoplo catfish, clown loach, a couple of plecs and some dither fish which are rosey and emperor tetras. The thing with me is I got the salvini when she was so small and all the other fish was much larger
so I have not had many problems with her just yet but now she is getting bigger I'm expecting her to try and go up the pecking order so I think I may encounter some squabbles in the next few months. She does not seem to like anything that is around her size. I had a large fully grown pair of Anomalachromis Thomasi and had to rehome them because she consistently chased them and began doing damage, but thomasi are very placid fish so against the likes of my full grown Severums it would be different.

My dither fish have been going missing lately and some are having there fins nipped and I put this down to the salvini.
As I have said there hit and miss, my female is sort of a experiment for me and just seeing how she goes, if you do get one then my advice would be start small with a juvi. Last time I went in Ferrybridge they had a couple, when choosing I went for a sub dominant female not one that ruled the roost. With your stocking I would be cautious if they are of similar size but you have a good sized tank so just be aware you may need to separate.
This was my female when I got her the end of April, didn't take long for her to get colour and bulk up

What a beautiful fish Liam
I'd love to add one, but I just wouldn't risk it. Hope she stays chilled for you :)
