How sad.

this started out as a poll just to see who uses salt and who doesn't. It's turned into people basically attacking people for the way they do things and then other people having to try and defend their fish practices.

We all do different things for our fish. We all care for them in different ways. You have to do what works for you. I know there are TONS of things that I do that if I was to say it on here I would be ambushed by the majority of the people on here. But you know what, it works well for me. I've been keeping fish for four years now and I've learned what works for me and my fish.

I don't see the point in basically putting other people down just because they choose to do something that YOU believe is pointless. Obviously to them it's not.

I personally use salt. But I'm not going to put someone who doesn't use it down. That's what works for them. Just let it be.

Basically trolling through the forums looking for a "pet peeve" to flame on about is against TFF rules.

It is one thing to state an opinion and support it with facts, quotes and scientific evidence. It is quite another thing to call names and get your adrenaline pumped up by jumping on people who have a different opinion than you. Some of you need to join a debate group and learn the rules of courteous discussion. This behavior is wholey uncalled for and gets threads closed!

There is absolutely no good done by trying to force your perception on others. There are rules for civil discourse. This is much more important than the conspiracy theory being put forth.

I use salt if I want to but usually use IAL and not both.

People sure are quick to get their panties in a wad on this forum lately, it must be a full moon... that has lasted several months?

Seriously.... that would be why I have mainly just been lurking. I've been a member for almost four years and it's gotten to where I don't feel like I can post my opinion on anything without some one telling me my opinion is wrong and that I'm a horrible person for believeing that.

So sad.

The "salt yell" is one of the ugliest, but "You are ruining the breed," They are from an Asian fish farm," and "They probably have parasites" are all on the Salt Yell's heels.

I had no clue this would turn into such an ugly debate, and it's sad that it had to happen. I hope I wasn't encouraging them by posting my responses.. Just seemed a tad ridiculous to jump on me and tell me I was under an 'illusion' and what have you, while insinuating I knew next to nothing about fishkeeping, and needed to be saved from my own stupidity.

Thanks for 'trying to help', guys. :good: Lol. I love when a matter of preference goes from opinion to hard based fact from person to person, and must be defended with all the passion of a religious debate.

I think that for all good purposes, this thread should be dropped before it turns into a further flame war over such a simple difference of opinion.

I am sorry you got ridiculed. Your response was no doubt expected by those that chose to troll and flame. A heated discussion does not have to be ugly. Everyone should be able to state their opinion and support it w/o being insulted. Insults are one of the immature and uninformed's ways to win arguments. An established way to learn is the dialectic: two sides discuss the pros and cons--civily. Throwing your weight around, name calling, pretending to be an authority still leaves all unsupported opinions as that=opinions and given in bad taste.

haha This is my opinion!! B)

Thank you very much for the support on the issue. I agree 100% with what you've said thus far.

Totally agree with you.

I don't remember any flaming, name calling (apart from maybe 'arrogant' :p) , attacking and certainly no trolling, but OK.... .
Nor do I see how this thread is ugly, or even particularly heated .

I mean seriously, where are these things?

Obviously however, I have offended some people.
For that I apologise, it was not my intention, sorry  .

There's zero scientific evidence that continually including salt in the water is beneficial for freshwater species. There's no need to be as argumentative about it as some people have been in this thread though, just state your opinion and move on. There are always going to be people who disagree, but if hard science doesn't convince them then anything else you try is going to be pretty useless, eh? You've already pulled the ace from your sleeve, you've got no cards left and any argument after the fact is just pointless.

If you find the need to use salt on any regular basis don't get suckered by those pretty one quart milk carton containers that say they are genuine aquarium salt. Spend your money down the road at the local farm & livestock store, a 50 pound bag of livestock salt is $3, and it's the same thing.

I always use salt with a bit little for my betta...
i vote it :good:
