everyone, is coarse salt ok for a tank? I tried finding epsom salt but I didn't see it anywhere. They didn't have aqua salt either :(

EDIT: Found epom salt. Now if I wanted to add some to the tank to heal some wounds, how much for a 1/2 gallon?

Epsom salt is completely different from "regular" salt, as in NaCl. It's a completely different substance, used for different things.

For treating wounds, you should use aquarium salt (not marine salt). You should be able to get it at any pet store. If you can't find that and you're in a bind, you can use NON-IODIZED table salt... but I wouldn't make a habit out of it.

Epsom salt is used to draw fluid off of bloated fish. Aquarium salt is a curitive that improves gill function, kills fungus and bacteria, etc. As lisie said they are different compounds.

BettaTalk recommends 1 tsp per 2.5 usg. You do the math. :p Some recommend much less. I just wing it. :/

If you want salt for it's anti bacterial / anti fungal qualities, cooking salt from a supermarket should be fine, just make sure it doesn't contain iodine or caking agents etc.
