So as some of you probobly have read, I have been treating my sick puffer fish. If (and when!) he gets better I was kinda hoping to put him back in my tank. I have been tabood by many of you for wanting to do this. :X What I was kinda hoping and wondering was, could I add a lil salt to my freshwater tank so that its maybe just enough for him but not harmful to my freshies? IS salt harmful to them? :/ I know it can be used as a theraputic thing when they get sick, but could they live with some in the tank like that? Is this at all possible or am I just having false hopes? 8)

yes its possible but first what kinda fish do you have as some cannot tolerate it. I know your puffer will enjoy it since he is a brackish fish anyway and probably should have some salt!!

Ive got 3 gouramis, 2 dwarf gouramis, 3 congo tetras, 3 rainbow bosamanis (sp?), 1 bala shark, 1 common pleco, and a rubber eel. I think i heard somewhere that plecos cant live with salt... yes? :/ Anyway, I dont think it will matter seeing as my puffer isnt doing too well. :(

there are a couple of fish that wont do well in your setup, pleco and your eel (I think anyway) Pretty much anything without scales will not tolerate the salt it burns thier skin.

I figured as much... :/ But I am afraid I am going to try and euthanize my puffer with the advice given in the tropical chit-chat post "vodka". Im squeemish casue it says the best way is decapitation! I dont wanna do this to my fish, but he is suffering. :-( so I prolly wont even have to deal with salt in my tank. Thanks n e way for the help.
