Hi

I've got some guppy and was told by the LFS to add salt to the water. What I wondered was, do other tropical fish that don't require the salt be ok in this tank?

I have heard that they like brackish water I have also heard not to.

I asked the same question not so long ago if i remember rightly the general thought was that you don't need to unless you are treating them for some fungal dieases.

but not sure

I've been having a look around the internet on this one. It seems that if you add salt to the ratio of 1 teaspoon per 5 gallon then this won't effect other fish who don't need salt. Hope this is sound advise i've been given!

salts got electrolytes that aid gill function. i add it to my tanks and it doesnt seem to affect anything. just dont add with plecos or other scaleless fish
