salt and cory cat

Salt and Corys! No i say. But i know of it happering and stoping Ich. Loaches do come from certain regions where they interact with Brackish waters and i know my friend in Thailand say's this is how they "clean themselfs" BUT! this is in the wild and home grown or import loaches dont know this. Loaches can be treated with salt but it must be a small treatment.

I shouldn't pour salt on an open wound :X but I do have to say that I like this place better with a little controversy here and there.

This came up in a post many weeks ago with a newbie wanting to put cories in a salted tank, and I said "remember -- no salt with corys!" and Les and a thousand (seemed like a thousand) other people said what in the world was I talking about, they always had salt in their tanks and corys too, and where did I ever hear such a thing, and not one person said they had heard it before, so I felt like I had just dropped in from another planet. Now, at least, I feel redeemed. I wasn't making it up! :D

Anyway, I don't use salt, nor have I needed to. Had a little ich once and half doses of Rid-Ich or one of the other meds cleared it right up. I do think live-bearers need it though, and that is why I don't have any. I put my crab in its own tank because it needed salt. But at least half the people on this forum use salt and swear by it, and I can't argue with their success.

Just today I saw one of those vase deals for bettas in my lawyer's office, and the woman said that the fish had died and she hadn't yet replaced it. I said they tended not to survive the best in those things, and she said it lived for a year and a half and looked so darn cute in there. How do you argue with that? Sometimes we just have to agree to disagree, I guess. :/ :fun:
