After 20+ years in this hobby I bought my first sailfin male molly. Boy are they gorgeous fish. I have had the other types of mollies but never the sailfin, they are stunning.

Would like to know, how many of them (males only) could you put into a 25gal planted tank??

Because I have never kept them before can they be nasty towards each other if I keep just all males??

Ask in the livebearers section of the forum plenty of experienced members there.

From my experience as long as there isn't any females for them to fight over they should be fine. I have just one of the male sailfins now. He is a pretty fish. It's not fair the males are always the more beautiful! LOL
As for how many, I would say 6 by the 1 inch/gallon rule. But you could probably fit a couple more in there as long as you have good filtration and good husbandry habits. Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply Hollymolly4, they sure are beautiful fish.

just warning you that they are fin nippers i made the mistake of putting them in a tank with angels and guppys, after going through 6 angels and 1 guppy, in the space of 2 weeks... i realised why they were randomly dying... the mollies were 1 male and a female... i wish u better luck with ur mollies than i had....

I've kept male mollies with guppies on more than one occasion and they were just fine together. In fact it was the female guppies who were always aggravating my apple snails. haha

But I did that against "expert" opinion and obviously your mileage may vary. I think you'll be find though.

i have had normal mollies, sailfin mollies, balloon mollies for a long time now, mine are mixed with guppies, platys and swordatils and a few endlers.

They have been in the community tank (the sailfins) and i have never had a problem with them at all, all the fish are still alive and none died.. I have got 4 (1 male and 3 females) and they are beautiful fish and peaceful.

I dont think you will have a problem with them at all.
