My mum owns her own cafe and theres a guy that works in a tip and shes asked him to look out for msall tanks do you think anyone would bring a tank to the tip? Oh well anyway he's still gonna look and if we find one i'm gonna make a small sponge filter and get a 25watt heater.

If your mum's friend can't help, there's a scheme called Freecycle where people offer things they don't want any more for free - apparently fish tanks do come up occasionally. You can join up and post a Wanted message. Your profile says you're in Eastbourne and there seems to be a branch there. You might want to set up an email address specially for this, as you can end up with a lot of email. If you google freecycle and your location, it should give you a link to your local branch.

My platy babies take their chances in the community tank - I've got some Java moss (you can get it on eBay if they don't have it at your local shop) on a piece of bogwood, and they hide in there. I just feed as normal but make sure that there is some crushed up flake or a crushed tablet, and seem to average 2 survivors from each batch.
