Sae Question

The reason I don't want to get ottos is because they don't eat red algae, and they're too small for me to notice. I don't really like searching for my fish, and since I've a lot of plants in my tank, I know that is what I'm going to have to do if I buy a school of ottos.

Not denying they're great algae eaters though, I used to have 3 in my 10 gallon and watching them interact was so much fun. They're just not as great as SAEs in getting rid of algae. But since LL pointed out SAEs are schooling fish, I think my tank isn't big enough for a group of three, although two may be a good idea.

Anyway, I don't want to deprive them of their friends, or get a fish that I can't provide for, so SAEs are out. As I said earlier, I already have a BN pleco but it doesn't eat either the hair/thread algae or beard algae, both of which my tank suffers from. I'm hoping that when I increase my CO2, it will help get rid of the algae.

And thanks for the link Torrean, I've bookmarked it! :)

I used the tried and true "turn off the lights in the afternoon method." It worked swiftly and my plants did fine. Just no more than 4 hours at a time and a four hour break between. Well, actually I don't know the rules. But those are the ones I used. Hair and red algea gone gone gone!
