we just had to put down one of our koi (an ochibe shigure - sp?) that we have had for about 12 years I think .
He had lived a good life, and was just generally giving up - couldn't swim properly and just didn't look happy at all...

sorry about your fish and 12 is quite young

most live to 30 but occasionally 60. the longest lived was about 200+

theyre a bit like parrots and tortoises, can outlive their owners.
