Hi All

Im new to the forum and looking for some info on S.A.E fish as i would like to add some of these to my tank currently i have in my 180 litres

5 female guppies
3 male guppies
1 leperd plec
1 clown loach

can anyone comment on these Siamese Algee Eaters and if they will be ok with my other fish.

I also wanted to add some medium sized Zebra snails but i know my clown loach may take a liking to them do you think he would be able to eat these snail's it not as if they are really small.

All reply's welcome.

The s.a.e. will be ok with your fish. The clown will eat your snails. And clowns should be in a shoal of at least 6. Your tanks isn't big enough for clown loach.

Thanks for the reply do you have any of the S.A.E fish if so how many do you think would be a sensible number for my 180l tank?

I thought my tank was big enough for my clown loach he seems happy and has loads of room i know your meant to keep them in shoals but he's fine. i will give the snail a miss then.

Clowns can grow to 18" in the wild so long term you will have to re house it.

I'd have at least 5 s.a.e.

And yes I have 8.

a 18" clown loach that would be amazing i also been told that the s.a.e can grow quite large.

I've had an SAE for about 3 years and he's been a nice addition to the tank and he's about 3 inches long. They can be quite flitty (where they will wizz around the tank quite quickly) and this is a downside if you have sensitive fish. I have a black phantom tetra that can be quite disturbed by the SAE flitting around so I would avoid if you have sensitive fish. Also, I've recently read they like to be in shoals so if you're planning on getting them I would get more than one :good:.

Well got me little s.a.e's yesterday and have to say these are pukka little fish lots of character and do what its says on the tin "eat all kinds of algee" all day long.

just hope ive got enough algee for them otherwise i will have to feed them algee tabs.
