Rusty Pleco

Thanks Jay I was told two males would be fine!!!! I will leave him on his own then will his two fishy friends a kissing gourami (another unwanted fish!) and a red tailed black shark.

Yes sorry ctlovesks for thread hijack

YES so you should be sorry for hi jacking my thread !!! :grr:

Nah me jokes its alright. Thats a big pleco... My one in the bigger tank isnt that big yet... On average how big can they get ?

From what I have read common pleco's can reach 18-20" mine are about 16"

Wow thats a size. Im not sure how big ours is but i know he is smaller then yours but still big

I'm sure I'll be corrected on this, but...

Common Plecos 12-18"
Common Sucker Catfish 12-24"
Gibbecepse Plecos 18-24"

The Gibbeceppse is like a Common, but with glod-ish spots on them. Common Sucker catfish have a shiney smooth back, with Common Plecs appearing to have more defined scales... Both Common Plecs and Common Sucker Catfish are often sold as Commons though, confusing stuff somewhat... Common Plecs are listed as L001, and Common Sucker Catfish are listed as L021, if you want to look the difference up on planetcatfish.com...

All the best

okay thank will look up which one mine is

mine is the sucker mouth pleco ... Great lol

How long could he live in a bowed front 4ft-5ft tank...

Will get proper mesurements later

So you saying my common sucker mouth pleco could get to about 2ft ?

Bloody hell (sorry for langue)

My boss at work reckons he's seen Suckermouths at 3' in captivity, and they frequently get to that in the wild apparently... A two foot long common pleco would be a spectacle, they aren't supposed to get anywhere near that big in the wild, let alone in captivity

I do have a strange soft spot for larger pleco's though...

Can't really say how long a Suckermouth will be happy in a 4-5' bowfront really. I guess it's a case of watch for the growth to drop off, or for it to look crampt, then move it.

All the best

I can see differences in mine, I think one is a Gibbs but not sure about the other, he seems different to the pics of the common suckermouth as mine is more muddy brown than black? In the 5 months I have had them, they have really opened my eyes to the plight of these big guys with how worthless them seem to be. I couldnt put a price on the character my two have.
